ABOUT OUR REVIEWERS

Meet the Awesome ELCL teen readers who want to share their love of books with you!

         GABRIELLE

Gabrielle has been an avid reader for as long as she can remember. The books that really capture her attention usually have a catchy first sentence, and she likes a lot of imaginative, fantasy books. She also admits that the cover art and title can often influence her to choose a book, or she will select based on the recommendation of friends. She belongs to the book club at her middle school, loves to travel, participates in a competitive public speaking program, and plays the piano. For fun, Gabrielle and her friends like to watch movies, hang out together, swim, play ‘wii’, and shop. Gabrielle thinks that she may consider a career in law or as a food critic, a teacher or a writer.

Over the summer she will be concentrating on school required reading for the fall, including a Sharon Creech novel, and Padma Venkatraman’s Climbing the Stairs. Gabrielle’s first review, James Patterson’s “Max” gives the ELCL teens a great taste of this popular series. Thanks, Gabrielle!

           KATE
Kate has been an avid reader for as long as she can remember. She has a love of series, especially current popular ones like The Clique series by Lisi Harrison. She finds that books like these have characters whom she can relate to, and that adds to the appeal. Kate is also a fan of the Twilight series.

This summer she will probably read some of Margaret Peterson Haddix's Shadow Children and of Lisi Harrison's Alphas series in addition to any required school reading.

When she's not busy being an excellent student or reading the latest popular series, Kate is involved in the youth drama group at her church.

          AMANDA

Amanda is a natural born book reviewer. She is a mature young lady whose favorite hobbies are reading and writing. One of her aspirations is to become a published author. Amanda remembers her mother reading her the Harry Potter series when she was young, and she suspects that was when she got hooked.

Amanda’s favorite genre is dark fiction, and she enjoys series because, as a rapid reader, she gets through one book too quickly to remain satisfied. Amanda’s hobbies include swimming, scrapbooking and she is an animal lover.

Amanda is anxious to share her love of reading by writing for the ELCL teen book review site. She wants to increase awareness of books that have held meaning for her in hopes of helping others discover the connection she has found. She has some great tips on choosing a book: look for an author you enjoy and stick with it; browse the library shelf for excessively worn books, which is like getting a recommendation by all of the other people who have read that book.
